Geweldige mod en console,

Voor de zomervakantie ging mijn originele game boy advance sp kapot. Ik vond dat super jammer en ik wou snel een nieuwe game boy kopen. Ik had gehoord dat de normale game boy advance veel fijner was om mee te gamen alleen het gebrek achterlicht of een oplaadbare console hield me wel even tegen. Toen ging ik kijken voor goeie mods en kwam ik deze website tegen. Ik had een mod gekocht met een usb-c batterij module, nieuwe achter triggers en speakers. De persoon achter deze website en mods is echt super aardig en behulpzaam. Het scherm is super mooi en clear, echt het is ver van teleurstellend en het batterij leven is ook nog best lang. Een klein nadeeltje is dat het eventjes duurt voordat je hem hebt maar het is het zeker waard en het is ook wel begrijpelijk dat het heel even duurt voordat die klaar is. De kleine extra’s waren ook heel erg welkom met de stickers, Pokémon kaarten en de super leuke plastic doosje in de vorm van een game boy cartridge. Ik ga sowieso nog een game boy color hier bestellen want ik weet dat het product met liefde en passie wordt behandeld en geleverd. Heel erg bedankt ik ben er super blij mee!

One of my biggest regrets in life was asking for a Game Gear instead of a Game Boy when I was a kid. So, when I learned there was an AMOLED screen mod for the Game Boy Color, I searched for modders whose services I could hire online to make the ultimate custom Game Boy Color build for me and stumbled across BoysMods.com. What ultimately convinced me to choose B. over the many other modders I found was the utility of the “Game Boy Configurator” on their website, not to mention the numerous positive reviews from other customers.

I ordered a Game Boy Color with every upgrade offered, but there was little information listed on the website about the specific mods that would be used, and since I wanted to know exactly what I would be buying, I emailed B. with several initial and follow-up questions. Although B. were usually quick to respond, I did experience some communication difficulties, and I unfortunately couldn’t get an answer to every question I asked. Nevertheless, they understood that USB-C charging was a priority for me, and despite not offering that upgrade on their website, they went out their way to order the necessary parts for me, even after I had given up on the idea. Although I was a little uncomfortable spending so much money while trusting someone else to make all decisions for me on which mods to use, I can verify that they do good work and put a ton of care into everything, even the packaging. A few minor caveats aside, the Game Boy Color that arrived was everything that I hoped it would be. I’m looking forward to ordering a custom Game Boy and Game Boy Advance from B. in the future. Four-and-a-half stars out of five.

Below are reviews for some of the mods used in my build.

SCREEN: Unknown maker. The AMOLED screen is simply gorgeous. The saturated colors pop off the screen, and the inky blacks blend in seamlessly with the screen bezel. The touch-based OSD can be incredibly finicky, but at least it doesn’t require you to memorize button combinations to navigate. “Pixel Effects #4” offers a convincing LCD grid overlay on the small screen. “Pixels Effects #2” and “#3” are simply the horizontal and vertical lines on their own–I can’t imagine many people wanting to use them. Although the LCD grid overlay dims the screen slightly, the screen is still as bright as I need it to be at the lowest setting. It’s a shame there isn’t a white variant of the black LCD grid overlay to mimic the dot matrix screen of the DMG. By pressing left on the D-pad and the B button during the Game Boy Color logo, you can set the internal palate for Game Boy games to black and white. By then setting “Color Mode” to “#2,” you can get a decent approximation of the Game Boy Pocket. “Color Mode #3” is a surprisingly good approximation of the Game Boy Light, and while “#7” is a mintier green than the DMG, it’s still the closest color available. You can also change the color of the Game Boy Color logo on the screen bezel, and while there is a large selection of colors to choose from, they’re all listed in an inconveniently random order. A multi-colored variation of the word “Color” is unfortunately not one of the options.

LEDs: B. used a button LED kit made by FunnyPlaying. Strangely, the button combinations to customize the LEDs don’t match the documentation I found online and took a couple of hours to figure out on my own. Perhaps it’s a different revision or otherwise running a different version of the firmware. If there’s a low battery indicator option available, it doesn’t appear to function. If it’s a matter of soldering the connection, I may do that in the future with the help of a friend with soldering skills. Otherwise, I’m happy with the options available and how they function.

Rechargable USB-C battery: Unknown maker. Extremely clean and convenient. Can be easily removed or replaced too. Very happy with this mod and grateful B. found a way to make it work with my build. The one and only downfall is that the female connector juts out slightly from the shell and will scratch any display cases you might pair it with if not careful.

Speaker: Unknown maker. Shockingly quiet even at full volume, but B. recommends against installing an amplifier, so I’ll defer to their judgement. The noise over headphones is also shockingly loud. I imagine the extra power draw from the screen and LED mods is the culprit, so I’ll probably try installing a noise-filtering capacitor myself with the help of a friend with soldering skills.

Shell/buttons/rubbers: Unknown maker. Look and feel like first-party products. I wanted a dark shell because I mostly play in the dark. I went with a transparent black shell because I also wanted the option of button LEDs. I thought white buttons and rubbers would pair nicely with a black shell, and I was right. I never used to play Game Boy games in black and white, but this color scheme makes them look really good when played that way. I wasn’t expecting it, but B. also included a replica sticker on the back of the shell. I had already order replica holographic stickers, but I appreciated the attention to detail all the same.

I paired my custom Game Boy Color with the EverDrive GB X7, which offers save state functionality–together with the AMOLED screen and rechargeable USB-C battery, it’s a remarkably modern experience. Highly recommended if you can afford it.

Finding someone in Europe that can do an Oled Mod (for the GBC) is really hard but not only BoysMods does it, he’s just a great guy!
I first asked for a specific shell color since I wanted something like the first ever GBC I had and he found out a color that’s really outstanding even though it wasn’t on the configurator on the site. He also was really kind and helped me with everything I needed, I strongly recommend! Best price, good service, awesome guy 🙂
Totally worth the wait.

I’m really happy with my GBA SP! I went for an all black version with gray buttons and I think it looks amazing. The new screen looks stunning (especially if you compare it to the original screen side by side). The GBA SP came packaged very carefully (even had some goodies included!) and B was quick to respond to any of my questions, which I really appreciated. Well worth the wait and I would definitely recommend Boysmods!

I ordered a customized GBA just over a year ago. I was amazed by the looks of the device, the vivid colors of the screen and solid feel of the buttons.

Boysmods was the only seller I could find that offered the laminated ITA screen. Delivery to the states took about 2 months but was well worth it. The build quality and screen are fantastic, and the colors are just as they were in the visualizer. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

I designed and bought a modded Game Boy Advance and I couldn’t be happier with the result. The ordering process was easy and BOYSMODS was happy to help with any question I had before ordering. The console feels and looks great great, the USB-C charging option is such a great quality of life feature and the IPS screen is makes playing on this console look great. All in all I am very happy.

The main unit is very elaborately made and I am very satisfied with it.

I ordered a gameboy with rechargeable battery and really like it, I don’t know much about modding so I expected the screen to be like the old one, but its more like the supergameboy on snes which hit me hard in the nostalgia, 10/10 can recommend and I probably order a gameboy advance as well in the future.

Excellent work! It took bit less than a month to make a perfect customised Game Boy Advance. The quality of the work and the components used is outstanding.

Very good looking GameBoy Color original GameBoy style, works perfectly. Only one small nitpick would be that the buttons didn’t work perfect when I first used it. But this issue solved itself after a few minutes. I had to “break in” the buttons. So a solid 4/5 stars, and a lot of fun to be had in games.

The classic GBA was my very first own console, so I decided to gift myself a premium modded GBA as a Birthday Present. I chose an Orange Shell, IPS Display with basically all Mods possible, going from better Audio, to LEDs on Buttons and so on. After 4 weeks the package arrived with the System and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Everything works flawlessly and its just pure joy to use. I also ordered an EZ Flash Card with my GBA to have all my Games on one cardridge, which is just fantastic. Absolutely lovely work. If you aren’t into modding yourself or are afraid of messing things up, BOYSMODS is the way to go.

As a person who hasn’t played Game Boy before i couldn’t compare.

However as i can see the console work very well, the criteria of the order have been respected, and the communication around the order was great.

I wanted to get the ultimate GBA SP, and then Boy delivered.
The 3.0 IPS screen is really cool, the global quality is really satisfying, although audio modding didn’t change a lot, and you may want to un solder the cable so that the screen is no more tactile.
Also, I don’t know if it’s the shell or the buttons, but if you press A or B and turn it ever so slightly, it will get stuck until you undo the rotation.
Other than that, it’s the perfect GBA SP and I’m pretty happy with it.

Very happy with my Game Boy Advance. The color scheme is amazing and the build is perfect, the GBA looks factory fresh.

I prefer the GBA form factor over the SP, but the lack of backlight was always a problem. This GBA solves that problem with a crisp, adjustable screen and on top of that it has cleaner audio without the hiss. The buttons, including clicky triggers, feel solid and playing games is a joy.

Customer service is great. My questions were answered promptly and unboxing was a pleasant experience in itself. You really notice the care that goes into a build.

Love it. The console itself looks super clean. The display and the USB-C battery makes it feel like a modern console, especially with the option to adjust the brightness on the fly.

I got clicky triggers which were a bit weird at first but now I would take them again everytime.
I have normal speakers which are imo good enough but I didn’t remember that the OG GBA volume is so low compared to modern phones/handhelds. Would probably choose an upgrade the next time.
Had to slightly correct something on my unit but BOYSMODS responded quickly and told me what to do so it was an easy fix.
Oh and the case is super nice.

The Game Boy Advance is a wonderful console however playing games on it is difficult because of the hard to see screen. Not anymore! With this mod the GBA looks fantastic. Games will have amazing colors en clearity.

The audio boost is a nice touch and in all black the system looks amazing.

It’s amazing to me how far modding has brought my childhood’s favorite console. The IPS screen looks sharp and the amp makes the sound better and louder, leading to a superb gameplay experience. All of this paired with someone like B, who was super professional and helpful during the whole process, really makes me wanna come back soon to build myself a Game Boy Color to complete my collection.

First time buyer at BOYSMODS. Boy did a fantastic job with my Game Boy Color. I’m really happy with it, it looks good and works perfectly. I ordered the rechargeable battery pack and Boy called me that the rechargeable batteries these days were better than the battery pack so he suggested to not take the battery pack. To me that shows the love for buildings things like this; don’t go just for the money, but provide the best service possible.

I’ve been looking for quite some time to actually find a way to properly experience GBA games on a next level, and thus I found BOYSMODS. I ordered my GBA on the 29th of January and received it today which is the 19th of February. The wait is definitely worth it! The mods are professionally placed, BOYSMODS is very careful with the delicate GBA parts and look completely mint. The shell looks amazing, the buttons work as they should and so does the brightness select that comes with the IPS v2 screen.
I’ve been having an absolute blast playing GBA games and being absolutely astounded by the amazing IPS screen quality. The colors pop out, there are no pixels. It’s very high res and high quality. The CleanJuice mod works properly as well. BOYSMODS is very social and will always reply to your messages when he’s able to, he helps and he doesn’t leave you in the dark about things. The colours compared to the standard Game boy Advance without the IPS screen are way better and more enjoyable to my eyes.

When I finally found a modding company based in the Netherlands I instantly contacted BOYSMODS with a lot of questions about modding my GBA SP.

BOYSMODS answered all of my questions and told me there was a fully modded GBA available! This handheld was already fully cleaned and checked for original Nintendo hardware. And even better.. this one had the epic shell colour Purple! My decision was quickly made and with no regret. What a awesome build! It has a IPS v2 display, a screen lens in white, mixed button colours and a great 900 mAh battery!
